Our Tourist cluster champion is Mr Carl Mossoom. Despite the fact that he has cancelled my participation to golf with some Japanese tourist tomorrow, I will still honour him with this report to EPU.
BEBC has realised that tourist only visit main city capitals and a fraction will venture to the smaller towns probably because they have heard nothing exciting about going there. Naturally, the main cities will get all the tourist dollars and will flourish even more.
The small towns can only hope and pray for their arrivals. Now all these hoping has to stop. All the vice chairmans in their respective towns must take the lead to initiate this program.
BEBC has kicked off by initiating THE PENAMPANG TOURISM COUNCIL and accepting the D.O. to take the lead. The entire committee will now become the think-tank and their primary function is how to attract more tourists into Penampang. It is hoped that the EPU minister can take this opportunity by supporting this news and making the same suggestions for every smaller towns in Malaysia to do the same.
Smaller towns must assume the position of HIGH VISIBILITY. They must be seen to be notice. They must be read to gain attention.
Naturally, the first step is to account for every touristic locations that all these while has remained hidden from the public eyes. Then there is the how-to-get-there gps routings plus the accommodation. Above all, the towns must be kept in pristine condition to welcome the tourist arrivals. We do not want to hear the Tourist Minister claiming that Sabah is very beautiful and yet dirty.
The CBET sites will be tallied and promoted accordingly as an ongoing program of BEBC.
So, the Penampang Tourist Council has made the following proposal PLEA to earn mileage:
~ proposed upgrading of selected infrastructures at selected sites of the Kadazan Homeland
~ proposed beautification of Donggongan Town as a CBD and tourism hub
~ selecting 3 sites for prime highlights: TAMU DONGGONGAN, BORNEO NATIVE VILLAGE & MONSOPIAD HERITAGE VILLAGE.
Other allocations will also go to the following:
~ ALL TAMU main building structures (flooring and roofings)
~ Public toilets
~ More road carparks especially near the night market areas.
The actual proposal will be presented to you shortly and I have been tipped that they are asking RM3.0 mil to make good on all the proposed sites duly identified being the initial ‘welcoming-you’ programme.
May God bless you with the approval.
